Abstract
This research was to analyze
structure and meaning of compound word as an adverb by studying in Royal
Institute Dictionary 1999. Methodology
was looking up compound words composing 2 Thai words and having function as an
adverb then analyzing structure and meaning of them following cultural language
character. The finding found that
compound words as an adverb in Royal Institute Dictionary 1999 were 580
words. The structure of verb combining
noun having most was 141 words or 24.31 percent. The least of structure used as an adverb was
preposition combining noun that had 3 words or 0.52%. Meaning of compound words as an adverb
categorized into 2 types that compound words as an adverb were having direct
meaning and indirect meaning. According
to cultural language character, the direct compound words were 199. The most of
them in word group about behavior and performance of human were 108 words or
54.27%. Word group personal relationship
was the least with 22 words or 11.06%.
For compound words as an adverb having indirect meaning was 381 words
and found them in behavior and performance of human most 215 words or
61.67%. Word group about natural was the
least with 22 words or 5.78%.
